Ingredients

  • 23 tbsp olive oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 1 pound beef stew meat
  • 1 tsp season salt
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup onion diced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1.5 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp corn starch

Instructions

  • Place stew meat in a bowl.
  • Season with salt, pepper, white pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and season salt.
  • Mix well until the meat is fully coated.
  • Add ½ cup of all-purpose flour to the seasoned meat.
  • Toss to coat the meat evenly.
  • Heat 2-3 tbsp of oil in a Dutch oven over high heat.
  • Once hot, add the beef and sear on all sides.
  • Reduce the heat to medium to avoid burning.
  • Remove the seared meat from the Dutch oven.
  • Add diced onions to the pot and sauté until translucent.
  • Use a wooden spoon to scrape off the brown bits from the bottom of the pot.
  • Pour Worcestershire sauce into the pot and mix with the onions.
  • Mix the beef broth with the water/cornstarch mixture.
  • Add the mixture to the Dutch oven, stirring to combine.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring frequently.
  • Once boiling, reduce heat to a simmer, cover, and let it cook for one hour.
  • Stir every 8-10 minutes to ensure even cooking and prevent sticking.

Cornstarch Option:

  • If unable to stir frequently, omit cornstarch initially.
  • In the last 10 minutes, bring to a boil and add a slurry (1/3 cup water + 1 tbsp cornstarch) to thicken the gravy.
  • Stir frequently during this process to prevent sticking.
